Kate Rodgers is the owner of Greenstone Soap Company; as a veteran of over 15 years as a soap maker, she has made close to 500,000 bars of soap. She will be sharing the tricks and tips she’s learned so you can avoid the pitfalls and mistakes beginning soap makers typically make.

This will be a three hour, level-1 intensive soap making class and space is limited. The class is for those with little or no experience making soap from scratch.

In this class you will learn to make cold process soap using all natural colorants and pigments to add skin care value and interest to your soaps. These soaps will be made using pure vegetable oils of Olive, Palm, Coconut, Sunflower and Shea Butter. You’ll be creating beautiful soaps using pure essential oils of Frankincense and Myrrh, sweet orange, cinnamon and more. *We will not be making soaps using animal products or animal bi-products (like goat’s milk) for this class.

We will be starting promptly at 10:00 am and should be through by 1:00 pm. There will be a short break for snacks which will be provided. Cost per person is $145. Payment is due at time of registration. Check, Visa or MC accepted.

What you will learn:

Basic cold process soap making from scratch using the same formula I’ve developed over my 15 years of soap making.
How to vary the oils in this formula to create a variety of handcrafted soaps of your own design.
Safety guidelines for working with Sodium Hydroxide and raw soap.
How to use essential oils for aroma and skin care value.
How to do basic essential oil blending.
How to use natural colorants.
How to use other ‘adds’ like oats, and honey or herbs.
How to cure and cut soap

What you will take home :

Soap making handouts with all the class info and some extra recipes to try at home.
Resource list for oils and essential oils, colorants, minerals and herbs for soap making.

Soap making gloves and protective eye gear

In addition each participant will receive, via USPS priority mail, 4 bars each from the three types of soaps made in class; a total of twelve bars per person . . . a $90 value just in soaps! (They will be mailed, as they need to cure for two weeks before they can be handled.)

What you will need to bring:

An old long sleeved shirt to wear over your clothes.
Please wear shoes and clothing that you can get a soap stain on. (Could happen, and raw soap and soap making oils are very hard to get out of clothing and shoes!)

This is great fun for anyone interested in learning to make soap, blend essential oils and play with color!
